Nike Olympic Reactives
All eyes turned to Tokyo for the start of the Olympic games. To mark the occasion, Nike wanted to celebrate a few of their local athletes who were making their debut at the Games, giving communities a safe way to support their hometown heroes and team USA.
We teamed up and went for gold – producing cool collabs with artists across the nation to celebrate Olympians who gave it their all in Tokyo. The first leg of our tour featured
California muralist Ever Galvez, who created a large-scale street mural in Sugar Land, Texas honoring Simone Manuel of the USA Swim Team. Its bold, rich tones were executed – paint-by-numbers style following Galvez’s intricate design. Then we passed the baton to our Portland team where three artists illustrated 9 of Nike’s Track & Field athletes with a pop-up art installation that lined Portland’s majestic Waterfront Park.
For the home stretch, we raced to Washington D.C. where we transformed a basketball court into a work of art that honored the legendary Kevin Durant through the artistic lens of Aniekan Udofia. Not only did this colorful court-sized mural transform fencing into a dramatic space for inspo and messaging; it brought the community together for a Next Level b-ball competition that had everyone at the edge of their seat.
It was a win for Nike, who safely united communities through sport and art. Across America we help put the spotlight on Nike Olympic athletes who gave it their all, inspiring all to Play New.
