Women in Events Q+A with Meghan Bauman

The women of productionglue share their industry insights and career advice.

What advice do you have for women pursuing a career in live events?

Don’t be afraid to ask. There can be a stigma around not knowing something in this industry and a fear of looking stupid by asking. But how will you learn if you don’t ask? No one knows everything and if they say they do, they’re the ones who look stupid.

What three characteristics best describe a successful Draftsperson?

Creative, meticulous, curious

Describe your proudest moment at productionglue. Why was it special?

Anytime I’m introduced as “the one who does all the drawings” and I’m told “I love your drawings! They make my job so much easier!” I don’t get face time with many people, but my drawings do! And while many people may not know my face, a lot of people know my drafting.

What are the career lessons you’ve learned thus far?

Never stop learning, never let your teammates down, stay positive

What are your hopes for our industry?

I hope that everyone is treated with the respect their position deserves. If someone is hired in this industry it means they’ve been deemed qualified for the job. No one should doubt that based on their gender, age, race, or any other superficial reason.

What do you enjoy most about being Draftsperson?

Creating beautiful drawings. They may be technical draftings but each one feels like a work of art to me.

What does true leadership mean to you? How do you embody leadership?

Being an example. A leader is someone who shows you how to be great and doesn’t just tell you need to be better. I wouldn’t expect anyone to live up to a standard that I wouldn’t keep myself.
